ESSENTIAL OILS TIPS & TRICKS

There are endless things to learn about Young Living essential oils and our other products. After all this time I am always learning and growing, so please promise to never allow yourself to be intimidated or overwhelmed with starting this journey. If anything I am here to help and if I don’t have the answer our team has a wealth of resources at our fingertips and together we will figure it out. Aren’t a member of our team yet? Let’s chat! Shoot me an email and I’ll walk hand in hand the entire way.

This will be a ever changing list of posts to share with you and equip you with the tips and tricks I am learning along the way. So check back from time to time to learn more alongside me.

ESSENTIAL OIL TIP #1:Have you ever had your thinner essential oils pour out too quickly and you realize you just dumped 1/4 of a bottle into your diffuser?Have you ever had difficulty even getting the thicker oils out of the bottle?

Each essential oil has a different viscosity (thickness) and they either pour our reeeeaaaaalllly quickly or terribly slooooooooowwwwly.

My mind was blown when I learned this trick!

The holes also help limit the amount of ‘fresh’ oxygenated air that can get into your bottle. Oxygen will quickly break down your oils if you accidentally leave the cap off for too long a period of time.

** With thicker oils like Vetiver, you’ll still want to warm the bottle naturally by either holding it in your hand or put it in your bra for 3-5 minutes. Then it will pour out more easily for you.

ESSENTIAL OIL TIP #2: WEAR YOUR OILS

One stylishly fun way of enjoying your essential oils all day long is by using aromatherapy jewelry. It allows you to take your essential oil fragrances with you throughout the day. The options are endless: make a fun leather wrap bracelet, leather keychain, lava bead or terra cotta bracelets and necklaces. I’ve even seen aromatherapy rings! Get creative, my friends and wear your oils!

ESSENTIAL OIL TIP #3: DON’T THROW AWAY YOUR EMPTY BOTTLES

One thing I could never bring myself to do is throw away my empty oil bottles. It just seems so wrong. Did you know that within the next few years Young Living will be a zero carbon company? They are extremely conscious about recycling so just about everything I get from them I can find some way to reuse and recycle it.

Never, ever throw your empty bottles away!!! One solution that I love is to make scented bath salts from my empty bottles! Simply take the caps and stoppers out of the bottle, put them in an large glass lidded container, and cover them  with Epsom salts. Easy peasy! The salts will absorb the oil and will leave you with some very relaxing salt to enjoy your baths!

Some suggestions for an amazing and calm bath are: Sleepyize, Peace and calming, Frankincense, Valor , Copaiba, Balsam Fir, Lavender, Idaho Blue Spruce, and really any calming or emotionally soothing oils: all are helpful.

Just scoop some salts out, add to your bathwater and enjoy!

These also make beautiful gifts to give to friends and family… grab some cute glass containers… mason jars… maybe even some pink Himalayan salts… use your imagination.

What are your favorite oils that you will save to try this hack out with?

ESSENTIAL OIL TIP #4: PLAY WITH YOUR OILS

Add essential oils to your child’s play, like this Pumpkin Pie Play Dough.  They won’t even know they are getting the benefits of the oils while they engage their senses.

My youngest daughter is in first grade so she loves to have fun independent activities when we get home. This DIY play dough recipe is perfect to keep your kids busy and having fun. It is also without any harmful dyes or ingredients, smells SO good and is an immune booster! There’s no heating or melting involved and it’s really easy to make. I also thought this could be a cute alternative to passing out class party treats on Halloween. Give each child a small ball of play dough and a pumpkin cookie cutter all wrapped in clear cellophane and a bow. You can attach a cute festive tag, have your child sign on one side and have the playdough recipe printed on the back.

ESSENTIAL OIL TIP #5: SCRUB AWAY THE STICKY! NATURE’S OWN GOO GONE!

One of my FAVORITE uses for lemon is its incredible ability to remove anything sticky, gooey, or unwanted off of surfaces with ease. Living with dogs +  kids makes me very appreciative for the power of lemon, can I get an amen?

We use it to remove price tags off glassware and hard surfaces, to get marker, crayon, pen and pencil off ALL the surfaces, in every day cleaning and more!

Add a few drops of Lemon essential oil to your naturally derived floor, window, and surface cleaning solution for a fresh, clean aroma. Do not use Lemon oil on granite or stone, as it may etch the surface.

Did you know that it takes 22 pounds of rose petals to make one bottle of rose essential oil? Isn’t that amazing? This precious bottle packs a big punch of incredible benefits. Incorporate a drop of Rose essential oil to your evening moisturizer to support healthy-looking skin. Try using other essential oils, but avoid applying citrus like Tangerine essential oil before spending time in the sun due to photosensitivity.
